Build this DIY ultra-simple AC electric generator from magnets, wire, and cardboard. (And a big nail!) Light a small lightbulb, or flash a red LED. This simple project demonstrates how electric generators work. All you need is a stack of strong ceramic magnets and a coil of very thin wire. S
ee the website for complete parts list. Also see the section about debugging, and the FAQ at http://amasci.com/coilgen/generator_3.html#faq Now if you want a more useful device, instead get a small DC motor. Use it as a generator, since it has much better magnetics design. All motors are genera
tors. Figure out how to spin a motor's shaft, and you can make a small powerful generator. . See my links page for many generator projects on other websites, at http://amasci.com/coilgen/generator_4.html Also... figure out how to convert the cardboard generator into a motor! . Lots more stu

being in class with my current teacher.
and it spins in one direction.
the red and black connector things called? and is there a certain sizeing for it?
do more generators
does rotating the nail/magnets feed it power. What im asking is where does the copper wire attach to, to send the current (if thats understandable...)
red and black connector things "Binding Posts," I used Radio Shack number 274-661
it now, thank you :)
current.
Basically, wires are full of negative electricity (copper's own electrons), sort of like pipes which are pre-filled with water. The water stays inside. But if you connect the pipe into a closed circle, then electricity can flow along like a drive belt. A generator is an electricity pump. A lig
ht bulb is a "narrow channel" which gets white hot from electrical friction. Changing magnetism forces electricity to move in a circle: look up: Induction +Faraday
type of magnet, etc.? How much different do you think a large scale version of yours would be to those wind farm generators?
make it with the red one, it worked in under 15 mins! tyvm!
benefits
the plastic one work? Or did you not show us because it wasn't "simple"?
Try other plastic version: get "buzzing rattlesnake" supermagnet eggs. Glue nails pointed outward on ends (to form axle.) Put it inside a plastic pipe so it can spin. Wind wire around ends of pipe (NOT around diameter, wire must cross the open ends.) Only need 50 turns, not 500, since it's
a supermagnet. Very small, yet higher volts.
a flash light blub
then it will flash a red LED.
for the reply, it was of great help.
